Molecular Disk Properties in Early Type Galaxies

We study the simulated CO emission from elliptical galaxies formed in the mergers of gas-rich disk galaxies. The cold gas not consumed in the merger-driven starburst quickly resettles into a disk-like configuration. By analyzing a variety of arbitrary merger orbits that produce a range of fastto slow-rotating remnants, we find that molecular disk formation is a fairly common consequence of gas-...

Lopsidedness in Early Type Disk Galaxies

We quantify the mean asymmetry of 54 face-on, early type disk galaxies (S0 to Sab) using the amplitude of the m = 1 azimuthal Fourier component of the R-band surface brightness. We find that the median lopsidedness, 〈A1/A0〉, of our sample is 0.11 and that the most lopsided 20% of our galaxies have 〈A1/A0〉 ≥ 0.19. Asymmetries in early type disks appear to be of similar frequency and strength as ...

Internal kinematics of isolated modelled disk galaxies

We present a systematic investigation of rotation curves (RCs) of fully hydrodynamically simulated galaxies, including cooling, star formation with associated feedback and galactic winds. Applying two commonly used fitting formulae to characterize the RCs, we investigate systematic effects on the shape of RCs both by observational constraints and internal properties of the galaxies. We mainly f...

Gas and stellar 2D kinematics in early-type galaxies

We have obtained integral field spectroscopy of a small sample of early-type galaxies to study the kinematical coupling between the stellar and gaseous components in their central regions.

Kinematics of globular cluster systems and the formation of early-type galaxies

We numerically investigate the kinematic properties of globular cluster systems (GCSs) in E/S0 galaxies formed from dissipationless merging of spiral galaxies. The metal-poor globular clusters (MPCs) and metal-rich clusters (MRCs) in the merger progenitors are initially assumed to have spatial distributions consistent with the Milky Way GC system. Our principal results, which can be tested agai...
